Two Marketing Strategies To Avoid on Mondays
marketing strategy #1
When you come across a small business email address, via general search or other less than savory means, add their email address to your autoresponder list and send them an email something like this:-
From: "@UU UUU AutoResponder"
Date: 23 March 2009 12:14:33 GMT
To:
Subject: Thank you from @UU UUU
Thank you for registering on the @UU UUU website (www.uuuuu.net).
Your log-in details are as follows (password is shown in part for added security):
username: yourname
password: false******
... by opening up their account yourself, your email will give the recipient the 'impression' that they have indeed opened an account with you, after all, they probably get so many emails, they won't realize that they haven't actually opened the account themselves, and you should get away with it.
Of course, don't forget to omit the option to unsubscribe otherwise they will think you are using a genuine double opt in email service provider
marketing strategy#2
This one is pretty easy, no trawling the web as you have them in your mitts already, as you send this to your existing email list, 'pretending' that they actually attended your recent event. At the same time, 'pretending' that they not only communicated with you afterward, but also contributed to your charity fund raiser.
Here's an example:
Hello (first name)
Thank you so much for attending our "such & such" event, we are delighted with the feedback you have sent us via email and what a fabulous day it was for all, especially for The Charity.
Thanks to your kind generosity we have exceeded our fund raising target of $xxxx.00 which is amazing.
What I love (cough) about this one:
You can then follow on your email with a long list of things you want them to buy from you, as well as advertise your affiliate links, joint venture partners, next course, blah, blah, blah...
Oh, nearly forgot, don't forget to inform the recipient that you have also asked other companies, that they will never have heard of, to email them too!! (wow list sharing without permission and against your privacy policy at it's best)!

Two Marketing Strategies to Avoid on Mondays ~ and every other day of the week!
Yes, these are real live examples of marketing strategies that appear to be of the "scam", "spam" or "hopeful" variety.
The first was received today by one of my clients, the second I received in my own inbox, surprisingly sent from a self proclaimed 'marketing guru'!!!
Marketing strategy #1 was likely a 'chancer' looking for additional traffic and hit and miss business.
Marketing strategy #2 was... was what? Well, let's be kind and assume they didn't segment their list properly, administration error?? Perhaps an oops sorry email will follow shortly!

Obviously, this is a 'tongue in cheek' review of just two 'unethical' marketing email approaches ~ so please DO NOT try these at home!
