Internet Overwhelm
One of the 'joys' of the internet, whether you are starting, developing or growing your online business, when you are learning what you should and shouldn't do, can and can't do, is that you can easily end up suffering from "Internet Overwhelm".
You WILL go round in circles if you listen to everyone about everything!
If you are like I was and many of my clients were when first starting out on the internet, then this is the first fundamental trap you will fall into, and virtually everyone does it, so you are in very good company!
There is more than one way to "skin a cat", as 'they' say
And therein lies the problem.
The first person you consult, article that you read or programme you buy, will recommend that you skin your cat "this way" and with "that particular tool".
The second person you consult, article you read or course you buy, will recommend that the best way to skin your cat is 'that way' and with 'this'!
You may consult more people, read more articles or even be given a free e-book to read about 'How to Skin Your Cat with Greater Efficiency'.
You've finished your thorough research...
... so off you go and set about skinning your cat in the way, and with the tool, that was recommended to you by the person who was...
... the most persuasive with their cat skinning advice!
Then, when, 'shock horror', you discover that it doesn't quite do what you actually thought it would do, you start the whole cat skinning research over again and go dizzily round in circles, at the same time as busily firefighting to recover some ground and some sanity!
'How to Skin Your Cat with Greater Efficiency'
A simple solution is to have very clearly written specifications of how you want your cat to look after it's been skinned.
Then by working backwards, you can identify the essential process steps.
With those steps mapped out, you can take the cat skinning advice you receive from your research, compare said advice to your known process steps, and choose the advice and tools that will work perfectly for you in order to achieve your end goal.
Points to Note:
- You WILL make mistakes, and something you do today may 'look like' a mistake next week or next month or next year!
- Things that you 'could do' NOW may change into 'should have done' and of course something different or better will come out next week, next month or next year!
Be kind to yourself - make a well informed decision and go with it - review and change as and when and if appropriate!
