Assuming you have a business card and that you are pleased with its design, that’s another topic, what do you do with it?
Here is a little business card marketing story to help you think about what you could do with your business cards:-
An associate offered to accept 5 business cards from online networking colleagues, promising to distribute them to other networking colleagues – offline, in the real world.
I bet you think this would be a great way to market your business, all for the cost of a stamp or two!
I bet you would jump at the chance to market your business and have at least 5 more people know about your business, yes 5 more prospective clients and potentially more!
How many people do you think sent their cards for offline distribution?
Answer: 2 yes that’s right, two! One of these had two businesses, so kindly sent cards for each business, so effectively 3 businesses received essentially FREE marketing for their businesses.
My Associate had been prepared to accept and distribute potentially hundreds of business cards offline and was amazed to discover the low response to the offer.
Perhaps 1. these hundreds of businesses that didn’t respond are all doing so well that they don’t need free marketing opportunities? Don’t need more prospective clients? Or just couldn’t be bothered?
Perhaps 2. the businesses that DID send their business cards are proactive marketers of their businesses? Always seeking new opportunities to reach potential clients? Always bothered, positive and active business people?
- Are you a ‘perhaps 1’ or a ‘perhaps 2’ person for your business?
And the positive businesses were:
Concept Promotions - 'Communicating solutions - For our clients, we make things happen!'
Net Achievement - 'Net Achievement - Keep 'em coming back'
Norfolk Cottage Holidays - Cottage Holidays in Norfolk
If YOU are a 'perhaps 1' - just perhaps - you could change a little to become a 'Perhaps 2', simply by recognising an opportunity and taking a little action - all for the cost of 5 minutes of your time and a stamp. Happy online and offline networking everyone.
